Girlz Nite Out! (Inspired by Lanvin)

Okay, now press play on the video before you go any further......

IT'S GIRLZ NITE OUT!
I thought this video was so fun to watch! (LOOOVE the tune by Pitbull.) My look is just slightly more casual, but my moves are just as cool. Wouldn't you agree?
I love how the camera captured the models moves, so I thought I would try it for myself. By watching the video you will see that you don't have to know how to dance in order to dance. Who would have known that these models are just about as graceful as Daffy Duck?! But they sure do photograph well! I promise I won't show you actual video footage of my moves. That would be a little much for you to take...;)

What I wore:
black Gap tank
Gap eyelet vest
Talbots black wash Signature fit straight leg jeans
Talbots metallic leather weave belt
Dansko shoes
Silpada ring
bracelets from Banana Republic
earrings from Bella Luna
Rimmel 60 Seconds nail polish in Grey Matter (I applied it on Monday and this stuff still hasn't chipped!)

My Monday Melodrama

We all know how we can feel on a Monday. If you are lucky enough to actually have a two day weekend, Mondays can feel a little groggy. One more day off would have been nice, but that is just not reality. Fortunately you have a job, which is why you always try to make the best of it. My Monday called for a little pick me up. Inside my head I know that it is not only me who needs to keep on keeping on, but it is also my clients who need to do the same. If I look bright and cheerful on a Monday and can inspire someone to feel a little more blissful, then I have accomplished my mission.

What I Wore:
Talbots chambray sleeveless origami blouse
J Crew cardigan
Talbots wool tweed skirt
Sofft suede camel pumps
Cole Haan snake embossed bag
Talbots scarf around my waist
hair ribbon by Laura's Style Boutique

Day 3 Hair. It's Not As Frightening As You May Think!

Recently I came across an article in my Harper's Bazaar magazine about how to have soft and shiny hair. As my hair gets longer it becomes more of an issue to wash it. Or should I say DRY it. My hair is thick and it seems to hold water, so washing, drying and styling it in the morning is getting to be out of the question. Everyone has been telling me for years that I should only wash my hair once or twice a week. But my scalp got greasy! They seem to have left out the part where you can just use baby powder at your roots to absorb oils and it freshens the scalp too! Now they make dry shampoos to do this same trick, but I would rather spend my money on something else. So I settle on the baby powder and it works! Today is day 3 of not washing my hair. A little baby powder at my scalp and a chic chignon is how I am rolling today. Tomorrow I will wash. Every 4th day seems to be as far as I can go. And it's true! My hair looks and feels softer and shinier!

Laura's Style Presents: Tips on How to Wear Color

My Monday Morning Crème de la Crème

It was a mellow Monday morning. I knew that I was just going to go into work, and check my e mail, jot down some notes and have a low key fairy tail of a day. The black day dress paired with my neutral wide weave leather belt, Burberry scarf, and nude patent platforms would perfectly inspire the diurnal course.......

(enter a tire screeeeech here)

That is UNTIL I actually checked e mail, learnt that we were indeed doing a crazy intense floor move yet AGAIN, and realized here I am wearing a dress and heels when I have to lift heavy fixtures, rearrange merchandise and turn my brain on high creative energy, all while remaining calm and cool like it's nothing. This meant I could react one of two ways. I could freak out and complain all day, or I could remain harmonious and just do the most my only human self could achieve. I designated the second choice. It's was all good. And I did it while I looked cool. So that was even better ;)
What I wore:
Talbots black cotton sateen day dress
Talbots wide natural weave leather belt
Sofft nude platform pumps
Burberry scarf

What I like about this look:
I felt like I was acting in an episode of Mary Tyler Moore.

Fresh Greens

The jewel tones that we are seeing this fall are simply gorgeous and they just so happen to be within my color palette. (just as you may find they are in yours.) I was inspired by my September issue of Harper's Bazaar to experiment with the greens. So decided to begin shopping. (my closet that is) And I found the jade-est of all the green tops that I own. This drape neck sleeveless sweater from Banana Republic seemed to fit the bill quite nicely. But how was I going to wear it in my own unique way?

I chose a gray blazer as the perfect neutral backdrop for the bright jade green top. Black pleated cropped pants and gray suede ankle boots made this look just a little bit funky. While the silk floral scarf gave me a little class. You will be seeing me wear more scarves now since I took them out of their hiding place in my closet and put them out in the open and colorized within their families. I just simply draped each color family over a velvet suit hanger and voila! I can see my scarves!

So anyway.....this is what I wore:

And this is how I wore it:

Bow Tie Baby!

There is just something about a bow that brings me joy. It is a bit difficult to explain, but I will try my best. I think it is the fact that with every bow comes a surprise.
Or it could be that bows are just so feminine and fun. They make me feel like a little girl again.
I just know that bows are not only pretty, but they also bring a bit of interest to an ordinary knot. Below you will find some pretty bows that may inspire you as they did me.

My Perfect NUDE!

As we all know I have been obsessing over red lipstick for a while now. Well believe it or not, there are days that I am not quite feeling the red. So in this case what do I do? I lean completely towards the opposite direction and go neutral. While hunting for the perfect neutral I decided that I needed one that didn't completely pale out my lip. But I also didn't want anything too brown or mauve. You want to pick a neutral color that blends well with the pink of your lip to create your perfect shade. This requires spending a little time at the make up counter trying a few on. I tried about five neutral colors of various brands before I came up with this Pure Color lipstick by Estée Lauder in Sensuous Nude as my perfect shade. Not only did it work well with my lip color, it also feels great on. So instead of slathering on that gloss this fall, this will be my go to tube. I have always thought that applying lipstick looks so much more glamorous than applying lip gloss. You never know who's looking!
